The School of Music Presents:
PRO TIPS by NEY MELLO
Want to be a cool professional in the MUSIC INDUSTRY?- RESPOND FAST!
The business end of the Music Industry has a need for very close and constant connectivity between publicity people, audio people. video people, booking agents, graphics design, performance scheduling people, roadies and artist, road manager, tour manager. Often one person does many of these roles. Returning phone calls and texts very promptly is key. I don’t do any-professional- work with busy friends (the music industry is a “friends and personal chemistry” business more than any) who don’t return calls within 3 hours max unless they are overseas or on tour. I still love them as my busy friends of course!
Coordinating music industry project activity:
Do not rely on texting only. Texting is cool for quite a lot of coordinative interaction. However, something usually happens: Some of your team start missing texts; They may be texting chicks or friends and quickly look at PART of you text and go back to the chick..and then they get “hormonized” and stoked for a date or a football game..etc…and they don’t come back to check your full text that has a “part deux” that was actually the important key part.
LESSON: You need to give them a phone call now and then when you don’t get a response to your text. Professional success in projects = Text+phone calls.
